NEWNAN, Georgia (March 18, 2020) – Bike Coweta in partnership with Coweta County and Mountain Bike Atlanta has officially completed the local fundraising campaign for the construction of five miles of additional mountain bike trails at Brown’s Mill Battlefield. Coweta County previously approved $25,000 in funding for the Brown’s Mill project and an additional $12,500 has been raised in local matching funds through grants, donations, and sponsorships.
The five mile section of trail is under construction and is the second stage of mountain bike trails planned for the park. The initial stage of trail at Brown’s Mill was opened in the Spring of 2019. The second stage is expected to be completed in late spring 2020 and opened to the public soon after. Stage 2 will feature machine built flow trails and is designed to be enjoyable by users of all ages and skill levels.
“Bike Coweta is thrilled that so many organizations see the value that mountain bike trails provide a community. Coweta County Parks and Recreation together with a number of local companies and advocacy groups have contributed to this project,” says Bike Coweta Board Member Chris Doane, “This project has benefited from local bike raffles at Senoia Bicycle and Atlanta Trek, a Newnan Rotary Grant, Southside Cycling Club Grant, individual donations, and corporate sponsors including Piedmont Newnan, Crezent Marketing, 75 Jackson, Newnan Utilities, Georgia Bone & Joint and Southside Wreckers.”
Brown’s Mill Battlefield is part of the Coweta County Parks and Recreation network of parks and facilities throughout the county. The historic site is 5 miles south of downtown Newnan at 155 Millard Farmer Rd, Newnan, GA 30263. In addition to mountain bike trails, the site features walking trails, restrooms and historic markers outlining the Civil War battle there.
